Free while it is in development, and it will stay free for anyone who plays it during that. No account needed to fly — an account only links installs and keeps unlocks after a reinstall.

On macOS, the first launch needs a right-click. The build is ad-hoc signed but not yet notarized, so double-clicking it gets you a refusal from Gatekeeper. Right-click the app, choose Open, and confirm once — after that it opens normally. Notarizing it properly is on the roadmap.
On Windows, SmartScreen will ask once. The installer is not code-signed yet, so Windows shows "Windows protected your PC" the first time. Choose More info, then Run anyway. Signing it is on the roadmap.

Linux

Not built yet. Novera runs on Vulkan, which is what Linux needs, and the work left is packaging rather than porting. The news is where it will be announced.

What it needs

Graphics
Metal, Vulkan or DirectX 12. An integrated GPU from the last few years is enough on the lower presets.
Memory
8 GB, and it will use less on the mobile presets.
Disk
About 2 GB — most of it planetary imagery.
Input
Keyboard and mouse, or touch. A trackpad works; scroll-zoom is tuned for one.

Once it is running

Reaching orbit takes a clean gravity turn: full throttle, pitch over gradually toward the horizon as you climb, stage when a tank runs dry, and circularise at apoapsis. Press M for the map to see what your orbit is actually doing.
