Questions and answers

If the answer is not here, write to [email protected]. It reaches a person.

Do I need an account to play?
No. The game is complete without one. An account links installs to each other, keeps shop unlocks after a reinstall, and will hold purchases when there are any. Craft, worlds and settings are saved on your own machine either way.
Is Novera open source?
No. Novera is proprietary — the code and the assets belong to the developer, and there is no public source. Being free while it is in development does not make it open source, and the two get confused often enough to be worth saying plainly. You are very welcome to record, stream and monetize video of it; the terms cover what is and is not allowed.
Where are my saved craft and worlds kept?
In a per-user data directory — Application Support on macOS, AppData on Windows, and the XDG data directory on Linux. They are plain files. Copy them, back them up, or move them to another machine; nothing is locked to an account.
macOS says the app cannot be opened. What now?
The build is ad-hoc signed but not yet notarized. Right-click the app, choose Open, and confirm once. After that it opens by double-clicking like anything else. Proper notarization is on the roadmap.
The game says it doesn't recognize this computer.
Your saved sign-in is tied to the machine it was made on, so that copying the game's settings folder to somebody else's computer doesn't hand them your account. Reinstalling, changing hardware, or restoring from a backup can trip the same check. The fix is in the account panel: “Start fresh on this computer”, which issues this installation a new identity. It costs you one sign-in and nothing else — your craft, worlds and unlocks are untouched.
It says too many computers are playing.
You can be signed in on as many machines as you like, but only three can play at once. Quit the game on one of the others and the seat frees itself within a couple of minutes — there is nothing to click. The message names which machines are using the seats, so if you see one you don't recognize, change your password: that signs out every device.
How do I link the game to my account?
Open the account panel in Novera and choose Link account. It shows an eight-character code. Type that code on the Link the game page while signed in here. The game never sees your password — it receives a token you approved.
It runs badly. What should I turn down first?
Resolution scale, every time. It is the only setting that moves the frame rate more than a couple of milliseconds. After that, clouds and SSAO are the two most expensive individual options.
I cannot reach orbit.
Almost always the ascent profile rather than the rocket. Go full throttle, pitch over gradually toward the horizon as you climb rather than in one hard turn, stage when a tank runs dry, and circularise at apoapsis. The ascent guide on the navball shows the schedule for the body you are on.
Is there a Windows or Linux build?
Not yet. Novera is built to run on both, and what is missing is packaging rather than porting, but there is nothing to download today. It is on the roadmap, and it will be announced in the news when there is.
How do I delete my account?
Profile & data, at the bottom. Deletion is scheduled rather than instant — you get 14 days, and signing in during that time cancels it. You can also download everything the account holds as a JSON file from the same page.
I found a bug.
Please report it. What helps most: what you were doing, what happened, and what you expected instead. A screenshot of the screen it happened on is worth a lot; so is your graphics preset if it is a rendering problem.

Still stuck?

Email [email protected]. For anything about your account, write from the address the account is on — it is the only way to tell it is you.
