Terms of use
Last updated 1 September 2026
What you are agreeing to
These terms cover the Novera game and this website, both made by Royendgel Silberie. Using either means you accept them. If you do not, do not use them.
The game is licensed, not sold
Novera is proprietary software. Apart from the third-party work described in the next section, Royendgel Silberie owns the game and everything in it — the code, the art, the sounds and the name. It is not open source, and nothing about it being free while in development changes that.
What you get is a license to play it: personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, and revocable. Within that, you may install it on as many machines of your own as you like and play it however you want.
Work in the game that is not ours
Novera contains work made by other people. That work is not covered by the paragraph above. It keeps its own license, and that license — not this document — decides what you may do with it:
- Four engine models, by MartianDays on Sketchfab, under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0. Anyone may use them on those terms, including commercially — that is what the license is for.
- Planetary imagery and elevation, from NASA, the USGS and ESA. Public-domain data. The tiles that ship with the game were baked from it by us, but the underlying data belongs to nobody and is free for you to take from the agencies directly.
- Inter, the typeface, by Rasmus Andersson, under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.
- Bevy, Rust and the crates beneath them, each under its own open-source license.
The credits name every one of them and link to where they came from. Nothing in these terms takes away a right that one of those licences gives you. If this document and one of them ever disagree, the license wins.
Video, streaming and coverage
Record it, stream it, review it, cut it up and publish it — including monetized video, on any platform, with no permission needed and no revenue share. That permission is deliberate and it is not going to be withdrawn on you. The press kit has screenshots and a fact sheet for exactly this.
What you may not do
- Sell, rent, sub-license or redistribute the game, or any part of it, in any form.
- Copy it for anyone else, or make it available for download.
- Reverse-engineer, decompile or disassemble it, or try to derive its source code — except exactly as far as the law where you live says you may, regardless of what this document says.
- Extract our assets — art, models, sounds and interface — for use in anything else. The third-party work above is exempt: take it from its own source, under its own license.
- Modify it, or distribute a modified version.
- Strip out or work around anything that identifies who made it.
None of this is aimed at players. It is aimed at somebody reselling the game or pulling its assets into their own — and it exists so that there is a clear answer when they do.
Your files
Craft, worlds, automation and everything else you make in the game are yours. They are plain files on your own machine. No claim is made over them, and nothing here gives anyone the right to use them.
Your account
An account is optional. If you make one:
- Give a real email address you control. It is the only way to recover the account, and the only way to prove it is yours.
- Keep your password to yourself. Anything done by a session signed in as you counts as done by you.
- One person, one account. Do not share it, sell it, or hand it on.
- Do not use the site to attack it — no brute-forcing sign-ins, no scraping, no automated abuse of the API. The rate limits will stop you anyway, and the attempt is logged.
Pick a pilot name that would not embarrass you on a leaderboard. Names that are abusive, impersonate somebody, or exist to harass can be changed or removed.
Suspension
An account can be suspended or removed for the things listed above. If it happens and you think it is a mistake, write in — it will be looked at by the person who made the decision, because there is only one person.
Deleting your account
Any time, from Profile & data. There is a fourteen-day grace period, and signing in during it cancels the deletion. After that it is permanent. The game and your local files keep working.
What is not promised
Novera is software in development, provided as it is. It will have bugs. A rocket may explode for reasons that turn out to be a mistake in the code rather than a mistake in your design. The website may be down. Nothing here is warranted fit for any particular purpose, and the developer is not liable for loss arising from using it, to the extent the law allows that.
The one thing that is promised: your saves are plain files in a documented place, so if this project stops tomorrow, what you built is still yours and still openable.
Changes
These terms can change. If they change in a way that matters, the date at the top changes and anyone with an account is emailed. Carrying on using the game or the site after that means accepting the new version.
